Making Medical AI Transparent, Robust, and Secure

This project focuses on building the next generation of trustworthy clinical AI—foundation models (FMs) that are not only powerful but also transparent, resilient, and safe to deploy in real healthcare environments. The PhD researcher will develop explainable AI systems using concept bottleneck models, which ensure that predictions are grounded in understandable clinical concepts. These models will be trained and tested on real-world hospital datasets (like MIMIC), enabling them to justify their decisions in ways clinicians can trust. At the same time, the project tackles the growing risks of adversarial attacks and privacy breaches in healthcare AI. Through advanced adversarial training techniques, the models will be made robust to manipulation, while their predictions are carefully calibrated to avoid overconfidence and hallucinations.
